Reinventing a 100-year-old music institution through a digital-first platform — heritage meets contemporary product design.
Casa Beethoven is a historic sheet music store on La Rambla, Barcelona — over 100 years of cultural legacy. The project redefined its digital presence, transforming it into a contemporary platform for musicians, composers, and music enthusiasts while preserving its irreplaceable identity.
"A century of music,
reimagined for the next generation."
An outdated business model, low digital adoption, decreasing relevance against online competitors, limited catalog accessibility, and a disconnected younger audience. The core challenge was finding the balance between modernisation and preserving the emotional, artisanal, and historical essence that made Casa Beethoven unique.
A complete UX research phase — quantitative surveys, in-depth interviews, competitive benchmarking, SWOT analysis, and cultural research — gave us deep understanding of musicians' needs, purchasing behaviours, and real transformation opportunities.
The visual system incorporated custom illustrations inspired by traditional engravings — bridging Casa Beethoven's 100-year heritage with a contemporary editorial aesthetic. Each piece was designed to feel like a historical artefact reimagined for the digital era, appearing across the homepage, history timeline, and editorial storytelling sections.
A full-stack design process — research to frontend — delivering a platform that balanced cultural preservation, contemporary UX, and technical implementation across desktop and mobile.
Each composer page combines biographical storytelling, a curated score library, agenda listings, and a follow system — creating a living reference for musicians and enthusiasts.
A living digital ecosystem for music discovery and cultural preservation — recognised internationally for its balance of UX rigour, visual identity, and editorial direction.
